Kona Countdown 2012: Five Weeks out
I am starting to see my work pay off–even though there is a lot of work still to be done. This week I enjoyed a visit from the family, BBQ, and some long rides in the mountains with Marko Albert.

Wow, this week has been tough–coach has me working very hard this year as I base myself out of Nederland, Colorado to train for the big event in Kona. Today I have three hard sessions–and I caught this video just after my last workout. Needless to say, I am still catching my breath after those hill repeats.
In this week’s video, I take an “easy” week–which means I have a lot of intensity on the menu. I answer questions from Twitter followers in regards to intensity and overall planning of training.
I am taking questions from my twitter followers about anything they would like to know regarding my Kona buildup. Just address your tweets to @dirkbockel #KonaCountdown.
First Endurance asked me to share which of their products I use for racing and training. You can read the full report HERE
This gives a bit of insight for @ThierryHensen and @olle_norberg who asked me specific questions about my race nutrition and recovery. I will hit on that in more detail as Kona approaches.
The #KonaCountdown continues…tweet your questions to @dirkbockel #KonaCountdown, and I will answer them in my weekly blog post. We are now a little over 7 weeks out of Kona, and that means a new video is coming up soon… stay tuned.
I am excited to share some news with you guys–Leopard Trek has joined with me to create a video series about my buildup to the World Champs in Hawaii this year. I will post a new video every week, showing you guys a bit of the behind-the-scenes story about what it takes to train and race in Kona.
In this week’s video, I am just wrapping up a training block and am completely exhausted–at the end of the day I really don’t have much left and tend to go to bed and boring hours like 9:30pm. Living at high altitude in Nederland, CO means that I need as much sleep as possible in order to recover from the brutal training days down in Boulder.
Starting today, I am also taking questions from my twitter followers about anything they would like to know regarding my Kona buildup. Just address your tweets to @dirkbockel #KonaCountdown. I will answer a new question each week!
